Dr. Fadel El-Zubi currently heads the Food and Agriculture of the United Nations Iraq Office and has been in this position since 1998. In 2007, concurrently with this post, Dr. El-Zubi was concurrently appointed as North Africa and the Middle East Region’s Senior Regional Emergency Coordinator for FAO.
Dr. El-Zubi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Irrigation and Soil Mechanics. He went on to earn a MBA and furthered that with a Doctorate in Business Administration.
With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Fadel El-Zubi has been active in a number of sectors and fields throughout his distinguished career in a number of different countries.
In education, Dr. El-Zubi has served as the Head of Intermediate Studies at a college in Jordan. Later on, Dr. El-Zubi became the Director-General of the United Nations International School in Iraq, a school that is associated with the United Nations Development Program.
Dr. El-Zubi has also spent a number of years working in the construction and engineering industry in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan. Throughout this time, he served as a general manager for reputed companies and was in charge of a number of projects throughout the region.
As of late, Dr. Fadel El-Zubi has been focusing his time in the most pressing issues regarding Agriculture. During his tenure as the Head of FAO Iraq, the agency has engaged in a number of programs, projects and studies at his discretion.
Dr. El-Zubi has lead diagnostic reviews involving economic growth as related to agriculture, investment climate reviews, labor market surveys, value chain analyses among other studies that were formalized under his leadership.
With a strong background in agriculture policy, Dr. El-Zubi has been involved in assessments regarding geographical indications, agriculture related intellectual property issues, such as plant varieties protection, and agro-industry development policies related to private sector growth in the agriculture sector.
Dr. El-Zubi is currently based in Amman, Jordan with his wife and five children.
