"RUN VIENNA 1:59" is a running event dedicated to the memory of the "INEOS 01:59 Challenge 2019", the biggest running event ever in Vienna. "Today it's all about Vienna - today it's all about Eliud Kipchoge!" With these words, the TV broadcast host introduced Eliud Kipchoge's legendary finish at the INEOS 01:59 Challenge on October 12, 2019. Moments later, the exceptional Kenyan runner crossed the finish line on the Prater Hauptallee in 01:59:40 and ran his way into the history books of the sport. With this performance, Kipchoge crowned himself the first person to complete a marathon in under 2 hours. The event is considered a world sporting event, watched live by 500 million people and broadcast to 200 countries around the world. Vienna became the fastest marathon city in the world in one fell swoop. Start on the Reichsbrücke - along the original route to the finish on the Prater Hauptallee Under the motto "Eliud did 42.195 km! How far can you go?" the participants will follow in the footsteps of Eliud Kipchoge and pass the Prater Hauptallee on several laps, which was crowned a World Heritage Site of Athletics by the international athletics association "World Athletics" in 2022. Exactly at 08:15, the original start time of the INEOS 01:59 Challenge 2019, the athlete:s will start their race. After Eliud's fabulous record time of 01:59:40 at the latest, the runners can compete and try to go as far as possible. Those who want it to be shorter can finish the race after 4.2 km or after additional laps. Eliud 1:59 Cultural and Sports Association - an association for the preservation of Kipchoge's heritage. Official world record run in Berlin on 25.9.2022 The 2019 INEOS 01:59 Challenge will not be recognized as an official world record by the international athletics federation "World Athletics" because the run was considered a "laboratory attempt."
