Because the round shape resembles a baseball, it was named 'Home Run Ball', and only after that was promoted as a baseball-related product. It is a kind of 'baby choux' with chocolate cream inside a round cookie with crumbly layers. It was derived from cream puff bread made of choux pastry called profiterole made in France at the end of the 19th century, and is a kind of cream puff snack. Products with chocolate cream are standard, but banana, strawberry, melon, caramel, cheese, whipped cream, home run balls and hazelnut flavored 'black home run balls' were also released.
