The Championship highlights one of the oldest styles of brewing coffee, the cezve/ibrik. The competition format celebrates this method’s rich cultural tradition, while encouraging competitors to bring their own style and flair to their performances.
The cezve/ibrik is a pot designed to make a concentrated beverage from finely ground coffee, by directly heating the vessel using a sand or gas heater. The body can be made of metal, brass, copper, or ceramic, but it features a distinctive long handle, and a brim that is designed to serve the coffee. Cezve/ibrik is a preparation style most commonly found in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Alongside the Cezve/Ibrik Championship, some of the world’s best coffee competitors from competitions like the World Coffee Roasting Championship and the World Brewers Cup will showcase their skills and coffee mastery through a series of interactive All-Stars features, including mystery drink challenges, interactive performances, meet-and-greets, and more!
