Under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s new administration, Japan is promoting Food Tech and biotechnology as priority growth areas. Cellular agriculture—positioned at the intersection of these fields—is gaining attention as a resource-efficient way to produce protein and may become a future option for a country facing food security and resilience challenges. This talk introduces cellular agriculture, explains how the Japanese government has advanced public–private collaboration and rule-making in the Food Tech/Bio context, and discusses Japan’s technological outlook. It also highlights opportunities for international cooperation in regulatory science, standards, and ecosystem building.
