Cooperativa Grande Sertão

Hall: South Hall 4 Stand: 27-111
The Cooperativa dos Agricultivadores Familiars and Agroextractivistas Grande Sertão, known as Cooperativa Grande Sertão, is located in the North region of Minas Gerais, a transitional area between two important Brazilian biomes: the Caatinga and the Cerrado. The Caatinga, in turn, is strongly associated with the Brazilian Semi-Arid, which extends from the North of Minas to all the states of the Northeast, with the exception of Maranhão. Founded in 2003, the cooperative currently brings together 377 cooperatives, including family farmers, extractives and traditional communities. All products marketed by the Cooperative come from the production of these cooperatives, ensuring traceability, territorial identity and valorization of family farming and sustainable extractivism. The cooperative has its own processing structure, which allows the processing of the products received and their commercialization in various markets, expanding income opportunities and strengthening the regional production chains.
