Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM), also known as the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission, is a statutory body established on 1 January 2008 under the Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia Act 2007 (Act 665). SKM is mandated to regulate, supervise, and promote the sustainable development of cooperatives to ensure sound governance, competitiveness, and financial resilience. SKM oversees the registration and deregistration of cooperatives, enforces cooperative legislation, and provides policy and advisory support to the Government on cooperative-related matters. As part of its development mandate, SKM implements capacity-building programmes and facilitates financing and market-readiness initiatives, including efforts to prepare cooperatives to be export-ready by enhancing product standards, regulatory compliance, and international market competitiveness, thereby strengthening the cooperative sector’s contribution to national socio-economic development.
