The seeds of Nigella sativa, commonly known as black seed or black cumin are used in folk medicine all over the world for the treatment and prevention of a number of health related conditions and diseases. The seeds contain fixed and essential oils, proteins, alkaloids, and saponins etc. Much of the biological activities of the seed have been shown due to thymoquinone, the major component of the essential oil.
