Glutinous Rice is grown mainly in the Northern and Northeastern area of Thailand. Its solid white color turns an opaque cream color after cooking. It has a chewy texture with a subtle sweet flavor. The grains stick together after being cooked and therefore it is also known as Sticky Rice. Despite being called Glutinous Rice, it does not contain any dietary gluten and is safe for gluten-free diets. Steamed Glutinous Sweet Rice is popular as dessert dishes or paired with grilled, fried, or braised meat dishes.
