Malaysia’s bird’s nest business flying high, demand rife in China
Ebn Kowalit Set to Expand Global Presence Following CNY Export Surge
GEORGE TOWN – Local bird’s nest breeders in Peninsular Malaysia are ramping up operations to meet surging demand in China ahead of the Chinese New Year festival. Koperasi Penternak Burung Walit Malaysia Bhd (Ebn Kowalit) chairman, Datuk Ng Siew Lai, emphasized the strategic importance of this period, as bird’s nest remains a premier gift and energy booster for the elderly.
With the global sector valued at US$5 billion annually, Ebn Kowalit is looking beyond its primary China market to expand into the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Despite the challenges of previous travel restrictions, the organization is now focused on physical international expansion and high-level business networking.
A Legacy of Quality and Innovation Dating back 1,500 years to the Tang Dynasty, edible bird’s nest was once a delicacy reserved for Chinese royalty. Today, Ebn Kowalit modernizes this tradition at its Lunas, Kedah facility—the only site in Malaysia featuring a certified Grade D processing area to ensure world-class safety and quality standards.
The organization has invested heavily in research to develop Prebiopep, a bioactive peptide used in their exclusive "ebn" personal care line and "Kowalit" supplements. This innovation represents a shift toward advanced downstream products, including specialized food, health supplements, and skincare.
Moving forward, Ebn Kowalit remains committed to defending the rights of Malaysian ranchers while establishing itself as a global leader in bird’s nest biotechnology.
