Honeyraj Sundarban's Honey
Sundarban flower honey is a pure and authentic natural honey characterized by its yellowish-brown color and remarkably delicious taste. This unique honey is exclusively harvested from the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest. The collection of this honey has been a tradition since 1860, with approximately 2,500 quintals (250,000 kg) harvested annually, making it one of the largest sources of natural honey in the country.
Distinct Characteristics of Sundarban Honey:
Consistency: It is often thin due to climatic conditions.
Color Change: Initially whitish, it turns reddish as the season progresses and flowers change.
Taste and Aroma: It is mildly sweet and slightly tart, with a faint pungent flavor and a wild scent.
Floral Nectar: It contains nectar from flowers like Khalesha, Goran, Keora, Horgaja, Pashur, Mothgoran, Kakra, and Lata.
Other Features: Shaking the bottle may create foam, and a pollen layer might be visible on the surface.
Nutritionists emphasize that Sundarban honey, with its unique properties, plays a supportive role in protecting against various health issues and diseases. Key health benefits include boosting the immune system, improving blood circulation, clearing skin blemishes, enhancing digestion, and helping to control gastric problems. It also contributes to keeping the body vibrant.
However, it is important to note that common home tests using fire, water, lime, ants, or freezing cannot reliably distinguish between pure and adulterated/artificial honey. Therefore, for the consumption of this uniquely beneficial honey, reliance on a trustworthy source is essential.
